Racegoers in Geelong have been evacuated from the Geelong Cup as wild winds and weather battered suburbs across Victoria.
An indefinite delay to racing was announced at 2:15pm with the event cancelled for the day by 3pm after just three races.
The emergency weather services, who are based on-course, warned the Geelong Racing Club that worse was to come.
The wind conditions were reported to be between 46-50km/h with gusts up to 76km/h. Those dangerous conditions continued through the afternoon.
The winner of the Geelong Cup is granted a golden ticket into the Melbourne Cup.
Event organisers have confirmed that the card will resume at 2:25pm on Thursday at Geelong (Race 4), and the Geelong Cup will be run at 4:10pm AEDT.
There is a second Victorian meeting on Thursday set to take place at Mornington which kicks off at 1pm AEDT.
