The Cox Plate field is down to eight runners with the confirmation of Globe’s scratching.
The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr stable has officially confirmed that the last-start winner will not run in Saturday’s weight-for-age Group 1 at Moonee Valley.
Globe, who won the Group 1 Might And Power on October 25, pulled up sore after galloping last Saturday and Racing Victoria (RV) vets have opted to scratch him.
Co-trainer Mick Price says RV vets were right to scratch Globe given the horse was simply not right.
“We weren’t happy Saturday morning, and we’ve done everything we can to get him through,” Price said on SENTrack & RSN’s Giddy Up.
“That horse definitely was not right. I know RV vets have called it but there was absolutely no disagreement from myself.
“That horse was not 100 per cent. Whilst it is disappointing for the owners and I feel for them, the other side is that you could multiply that disappointment by about 50 if you were to run that horse, see him go no good in a Cox Plate and exacerbate what is now a small injury.
“I think this is absolutely the correct decision, I was glad the decision was made, it was not a grey area in my opinion.
“Absolutely the horse should not run.”
The seven-year-old gelding was considered the key speed influence in the Cox Plate - a race that quite often depends on tempo, tactics and speed.
Jockey Ben Melham, who was set to sit atop Globe, will now be left without a Cox Plate ride. Connections had drawn barrier 7 for Globe.
Last year’s winner Via Sistina remains a firm $2.20 favourite with Sportsbet for the 2040m Group 1 at The Valley which jumps at 5:40pm AEDT on Saturday.
