Best Bet

Race 1 – 9. Wolf Junior
I’ll readily admit that this program isn’t a high-confidence one, but I’m very keen to be with Wolf Junior in the opening race. Connections showed what they think of this 2yo by debuting him in a Listed Elwick Stakes, and he later concluded his preparation by finishing down the track to the likely top 2yo of the year, Sanniya. Wolf Junior has been given a break and trialled up very stylishly at this track in the middle of June. For me, he’s the standout play of the day.

Next Best

Race 3 – 1. The Longest Yard
The Longest Yard arrived in the state with a rating in the low 50s, so despite winning 2/2 in Tassie, he now finds himself in a BM60. He was very impressive last Sunday, downing the hot-pot Skin in the Game, with the trifecta there putting a space on fourth. Up in trip, on the quick backup looks ideal, and even though he rises in weight, he faces a field that is predominantly out of form. Big chance to make it a hat-trick of Tasmanian wins.

Best Each-Way

Race 2 – 3. Opensea
I was with Opensea at his first Tasmanian start, and I thought he did enough to follow-up. That race was slowly run, and though Opensea settled in a midfield position, he was flat-footed when the sprint came into the race, before being strong through the line. Up to 1650m suits off the back of that run, and this race certainly isn’t any harder. He was $6 at his first run for Michael Trinder, and I think we’ll see an each-way price once again.
