In the midst of a numerous free agent discussions, the Saints are looking to lock down their own out-of-contract star off the back of a career-best night at Marvel Stadium.
Despite a 20-point loss to the Hawks, 22-year-old half back flanker Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera played out arguably the best of his 80-game career, dominating in multiple positions and anchoring the Saints’ persistence across the course of the contest.
Stuffing the stat sheet, the star collected a ridiculous career-high 43 disposals – 33 of which were kicks – 11 score involvements, seven intercepts, six marks and 1010 metres gained, joining an exclusive club of players to exceed a kilometre via ball use over the course of a single game.
Wanganeen-Milera’s exceptional tank and top-tier work rate also saw the star venture into the midfield, with six centre bounce attendances and three clearances - all in the final term alone.
Off the back of his elite performance, St Kilda have reportedly tabled their star flanker a $1.2m contract plus incentives, spanning over a minimum of two years, with the option to extend up to 10 years, according to Fox Footy’s Jay Clark.
“St Kilda, we can tell you, has formally offered its contract to Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera,” Clark said on Fox Footy’s Super Saturday Live.
“It’s a two-year deal worth about $1.2 million-plus (per) season. But this is choose-your-own-adventure. He can stay for up to eight or 10 years of he likes, but it’s a two-year minimum.
“Importantly, it matches the money on offer at Adelaide and Port Adelaide.”
Speaking to the level of Nasiah’s game, Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell remarked that despite planning for the star’s influence prior to their Round 17 clash, there was no stopping him across the course of the game.
“Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera… I’m going to have nightmares about him!” Mitchell said in his post-game press conference.
“We scouted him, we tried so many things, we just couldn’t stop him. He’s just too good!”
Where do you worry the most about him? Off half-back or in the midfield?
“Wherever he is! Even when he’s on the bench I was worried about him in the end.
“Watching him before tonight I knew he was a really good player… we tagged him with three or four different players in three or four different positions.
“He was just too good. Whether he was winning it contested or uncontested… he’s just a star.”
Amid rumours of Tom De Koning’s potential arrival at Moorabbin, the Saints will be hoping to lock down their own star, matching the money offered to rivals in South Australia.
