Scottie Scheffler is back on top!
The World No.1 secured his third career major with a five-stroke victory.
The 28-year-old is now halfway to the career Grand Slam. Scheffler is only the third golfer to win 15 or more PGA Tour events before the age of 29, joining Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. He also joins those two names as the third player to win multiple PLAYERS Championships - The Masters and the PGA Championship.
Scheffler entered the final day with a three-shot lead thanks to a commanding round of -6 on Saturday. An early challenge from Spaniard Jon Rahm and poor start from the American left the pair tied as Scheffler made the turn.
Known for his ability to reset and go again, Scheffler did just that! The now champion put together a faultless back nine and piled the pressure on Rahm. With the lead growing bigger and number of holes to play gonly dwindling, the Spaniard had to risk it all.
Ultimately, Rahm imploded on Quail Hollow's famous 'Green Mile' - the difficult three-hole closing stretch. Shooting +5 over through the penultimate 3 holes and T-8 for the competition.
All that was left for Scheffler to do was to safely navigate the 'Green Mile' with a six-stroke lead. He did so, comfortably.
Almost exactly a year to the day, Scheffler was in the back of a police car and in handcuffs at this very event. A year later, he is raising the Wanamaker Trophy as the 2025 PGA Champion!
The champion was visibily emotional walking down the final fairway and during his celebrations after sinking his final putt.
The world's top player commented before collecting the Wanamaker trophy: "I knew it was going to be a challenging day.
"Finishing off a major championship is always difficult and I did a good job of staying patient on the front nine.
"I didn't play my best stuff but I kept myself in it, stepped up on the back nine and had a good nine holes."
