Adam Scott will join leader, Sam Burns, in the final pairing of the US Open after J.J Spaun bogeyed the 18th hole to move back to -3. Scott put together another solid round and topped it off with a strong finish late on Saturday. Scott has looked in control all weekend as the rest of the the field have struggled.

Scott makes his move late

Scott started the day T5 and three shots off leader, Sam Burns. As the day went on, it looked like Scott was on to shot another even par round. The 44 year old's joke of playing "old man par golf" yesterday was becoming a reality as he shot 8 pars in a row.

Scott came to life on the 13th hole - shooting -3 through his final 5 holes. A great tee shot on 13 and approach shot on 14, left Scott with two short birdie chances. He capitalised on both before a brilliant up and down on 17 gave Scott a brief share of the lead before both leaders, Burns and Spaun, also birdied the 17th. S

Elsewhere, Marc Leishman and Scottie Scheffler had positive days and moved up the leaderboard. both men finishing T11. The Aussie shot -2 on the day and gained 34 places whilst Scheffler's even par round saw him move 12 places to the better.

Jason Day struggled and fell back to nine shots off the lead - too far back to mount a challenge on Sunday. Cam Davis recorded the worst score of the day as he shot +12 on the day leaving him +19 for the tournament.

McIlroy breaks media silence

A frustrated McIlroy faced the media after his round and was visibly frustrated. In an awkward exchange, Rory was asked has his on-course performance played a factor in his decision to step away from the media and responded:

'No, not really - it's more of a frustration with you guys (the media).

The interview finished with McIlroy being asked what he will look for tomorrow. Stumped by the question at first, McIlroy finished with:

'Hopefully a round in four and a half hours and get out of here'
