The “high-class” mare Freedman rates as his best winning chance for the weekend

Sam Freedman has rated the stable’s best winning chance for the weekend.

The star trainer believes__Place Du Carrousel__ over 1800m in the Group 1 Underwood Stake is their most likely winner on a tough day across the country.

Resuming here first-up en route to the Caulfield Cup, Place Du Carrousel heads into this spring with plenty of hype given her European form and her runners-up run behind Via Sistina in the Ranvet during the autumn.

She’ll be ridden by Mark Zahra from barrier five on the weekend and Freedman couldn’t be happier with her recent pieces of work.

“She certainly has come back in good form,” Freedman told SENTrack’s Giddy Up.

“She showed in her first run in Sydney that she’s obviously a high-class mare and we’re not reinventing the wheel with her as she’s got a great record and we’re just going to try and hold her at her level that she’s shown overseas.

“Her trials this time around have been excellent so she seems in a really good space.

“She got Pride Of Jenni’d in the Queen Elizabeth and you can’t discount that form but the way the race was run on that occasion it brought everyone unstuck.

“We’ve seen this time around that those horses are still very much prominent so she’s got the right formlines and she’s a high-class mare that might be forgotten about a little bit.

“Via Sistina has won a couple now so we’ve flown under the radar a little bit which we’re fine with that.

“She’s been trialling sharply enough that the mile and a quarter might be suitable for her as well and I’ve got a little feeling that a bit of give in the track will probably see the best of her.

“It doesn’t need to be heavy or anything like that but if it was a Soft 5 we’d be brimming with a fair bit of confidence.

“The mare Place Du Carrousel would be our best for the weekend.”

Place Du Carrousel is the $4.40 second favourite behind race favourite Pericles.
