Brisbane Broncos coach Michael Maguire has spoken to the media, admitting he did not expect Ben Te’o’s resignation to come.

The assistant coach's decision to leave the club was confirmed on Tuesday, with it being reported that the two had a disagreement over the defensive tactics for their Round 3 clash against the Melbourne Storm.

Te’o had been brought to the Broncos after Maguire was announced as coach from last season.

Speaking on the news that has engulfed the Broncos since it broke, the two-time NRL Premiership-winning coach didn’t expect it to happen.

But his main focus remains on Friday night’s clash against the Dolphins.

"Things (have happened) that, I guess you, you don't expect to happen, I guess," Maguire said on Thursday.

"You've got to deal through those, and you've got to remember you're dealing with people. That's the important part here, and obviously we've got to move forward because we've got a big game (on Friday night)."

The Broncos are in the midst of their preparations for their Round 4 clash against the Dolphins this Friday.

That will take place from 8pm AEDT (7pm AEST) at Suncorp Stadium with SEN having live coverage of the match through SENQ and on the SEN app.
