Errol Gulden's luckless run with injury continues after being ruled out for at least four months following a significant shoulder injury.
Caught in a tackle during Sydney's triumphant win over the Brisbane Lions on Saturday night, Gulden suffered a dislocation to his right shoulder.
The club announced on Monday morning that Gulden, 23, will be sent in for surgery later this week, ruling him out for at least four months.
Gulden's Round 1 injury comes off the back of a fractured ankle suffered during pre-season in 2025 that held him out of action until Round 15, limited to just 10 contests over the course of last season.
A four-month stint on the sidelines will see Gulden return ahead the AFL finals.
Speaking on SEN Breakfast, Swans coach Dean Cox says the club opted to take a long-term view with their superstar's health instead of having him play through the injury in the short-term.
“It’s obviously devastating with the shoulder injury that he's sustained, he'll meet with a surgeon today and have surgery tomorrow,” Cox said on SEN Breakfast.
“It's a lengthy timeline as well, unfortunately. We'll do everything we can to support him and get him back as fit as he possibly can towards the back end of the year.
“We spoke through with Errol every option that he did have, and the recommendation from our medical team and the surgeon was to get surgery done, to not risk the chance of it continually popping out and look after him for his long-term as well.
“When you've got a player of Errol's calibre, you want to make sure that you can try and do as much as you possibly can to short-term to get the results you want, but also to look after him as much as possible.”
