State of Origin set to head overseas in 2027

State of Origin is set to go beyond Australian shores with New Zealand having reportedly agreed to host a match in 2027.

The watershed news was broken by The Courier Mail’s Peter Badel, who wrote that an agreement-in-principle between the ARLC and the New Zealand Government had been made.

This will mean that the Queensland and New South Wales men's sides will play one another at Eden Park in Auckland for Game II in two year's time.

This is now the latest move by the ARLC and NRL, which are led by Peter V’Landys and Andrew Abdo, to have marquee events on the Rugby League calendar being played outside of Australian shores.

It is believed that the NZ Government paid up to $5 million to bring the event across the Tasman.
