Saturday best bets from Luke & Taggart (25/10)

The lads have taken a close look at Moonee Valley & Randwick in a bid to find the family some winners.

MOONEE VALLEY

Race 2 | 2. Napoleonic

Tricky gate but he has early speed and not huge amount of pace outside of Cacchione and Prince Tycoon so I think we will be able to sit close! Comes out of the Sydney races that are tougher than this. If he gets some luck early he is going to be mighty hard to beat here!

Race 4 | 1. Salty Pearl

Her run last week was really good in the 1000m guides where the slow pace didn’t suit her but ran through the line really well! She has ran here before which gives her an advantage when third resuming over 1200m. She is drawn perfectly to her run of the race and I think she is the classiest girl in the field. She is short at $2.50 but as long as she handles the seven day back up and I think she will, she’ll be too good!

Race 5 | 3. Casino Seventeen (win) & 7. Star Of India (each-way)

CS has been running well this prep without winning but today finds a perfect set up! Beat Middle Earth home in Underwood and meets him better at weights. He beat home Future History last start and although the weight swing is slightly towards Future History today I can’t see him turning the tables even though he is a Moonee Valley specialist. Last time here he was ok in muddled speed race but I like he has had a look around. He will have a cushy run in the race from that gate and with even luck can peel off the back of Future History who will lead and win!

Have a little EACH-WAY nibble on the 7 Star of India as well. Burst onto Aussie scene before getting hurt and hadn’t got near it since but has been ok this prep. Didn’t have best of luck two back and then flew home last start in race Globe featured in! He his at his best over 2000m and he finds it here! Will run well and is a great value play!

Race 6 | 6. Movin Out (each-way) & 9. She's Unusual (win)

She's Unusual - Keeps running well and winning in races where the form holds up afterwards. She was impressive as all get out last start and gets back to the 2000m where last time only Travolta beat her. Back to Mares grade and well weighted will go bang!

Movin Out - She was pretty good last start at Caulfield without huge amount of luck in a slowly run race and hit the line well. Get the 2000m for the first time this prep and I think that’s her wheelhouse. Will need a great steer from Ben Melham as that gate is a little wasted considering she traditionally does get back but he’s a star. She belted them in the Mornington Guineas last prep and ended up running fourth in a QLD Oaks and that form is well and truly good enough for this. She is over the odds at $12. Each way play for sure!

Race 7 | 4. Rise At Dawn

Will get run of the race and control it and hopefully the race is at a slower speed than what he did a couple of starts to go at Flemington. Mind you the form behind Transatlantic holds up! Had to work too hard last start in Sydney. Won’t have that issue early today. Has been here before and won and gets back to the 1600m for first time since 4th in Doncaster. Tough horse to get past and I don’t think they will today!

Race 10 | 7. Treasurethe Moment

COX PLATE time and an end of an era! I’m with this girl to bounce back. They were really keen for barrier 1 which makes me think she might lead with Light Infantry Man outside her. They are ready to swing and I love that! Jockey (Damian Lane) is a deadset star but the jockey who wins this race will need to ride the perfect tactical race! Via Sistina deserves favouritism and I see why and the speed will suit her if it’s on. Antino will be suited if it’s slow and he takes off!! This isn’t a major betting race but I’m with TTM and when they cross the line, Lane will be lauded as per! I am more about enjoying the race as it’s my favourite race of the year and it will never ever be the same again! Not saying it will be better or worse. Just different and I plan on loving every second of the two mins regardless of the result and am betting accordingly.

RANDWICK

Race 5 | 7. Skyglider (each-way)

Was great on debut when beating a couple of nice horses who went on to win group races. He was then ripped out and since then has trialled up really well! Will go control the race as well without major speed and he might be a nice horse! I’m happy to take the $9 to find out. Great each way play!

Race 8 | 6. Federalist (each-way)

Finally gets to 2000m but as usual draws a putrid gate and there isn’t a joys amount of speed. Attica kept him in a pocket last start and had to re start momentum so I’m more concerned about the gate than I am about him beating him last start! Going to need something different for him to have speed on race and give him best chance but he is way over the odds at $20 In early markets. Back him each way!

Race 9 | 1. Stefi Magnetica

Backing the best horse In the race! She was ok over unsuited 1200m resuming and up to 1400m works here today! Won’t be as far off them today. Enjoys Randwick and trialled really well since that last run! She will be mighty hard to beat! Think she has more improvement in her than Manaal and Miss Roumbini has been good both runs in and runs well 3rd up but those wins in lower races than this but must be respected but I’m with SM.

MOONEE VALLEY

Race 1 | 5. Major Share (value)

They’re going to go hard here which will give something to run on from the rear. That could be Major Share who resumes and he has a good fresh record. Draws the outside in this small field which isn’t going to worry him and he is worth an each-way play.

Race 4 | 1. Salty Pearl

Backs up from last week's Guineas where she made up good ground in a race dominated by leaders. She is the best horse in the race and should have these covered.

Race 10 | 6. Via Sistina

Is this all about Via Sistina? Yes it is! In one of the weakest Cox Plates in history she only has to be half as good as last year to win. JMac will give her a peach as usual.

RANDWICK

Race 5 | 7. Skyglider

Resumes and is ready to go off his trials. Was tipped straight out after his debut win as fav in which has turned out to be a strong maiden with form being franked. Defeated Sixties who has won a G3 and Estremo who has also gone on. Draws soft and there is no reason he can’t win.

Race 10 | 1. Transatlantic

Got away with murder in the Toorak having it his own way and is racing in career best form. Won’t matter he may not get his own way here as he should just be too good for them from a soft draw.
