Gehamat Shibasaki has vowed to never let his teammates down again after admitting his boozy bender could have cost him so much more than being dropped.
The centre confessed to his teammates and coach Michael Maguire that he broke their no alcohol pact after their round 26 victory over the Cowboys.
He had met up with friends and family at a Brisbane pub where he ran into some Dolphins players. He proceeded to drink with them before turning up to training the following day to confess.
“I thought I might not be back, 100 per cent,” Shibasaki told News Corp. “I was disappointed in myself for what I did.
“I was ready to do whatever it took to get the boys ready to prepare for (the Canberra) game if I wasn’t picked.”
Shibasaki was benched for the Broncos’ final home and away match which saw them annihilate the Storm 30-14. Despite finals being locked in, he admits he thought his campaign was over.
“I really let the boys down and the coaching staff,” he added. “I didn’t know if I would be back.
“I trained really hard last week. I copped my punishment. I was ready for whatever the leadership group and Madge decided and I would back them 100 per cent if they didn’t want me back.
“For them to give me a second chance, I am truly grateful and I have the next two years to hopefully repay them by winning a premiership.”
The Broncos have a weekend off before hosting either the Panthers or Bulldogs in the Grand Final qualifier at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday September 28.
