Australia have put themselves in a winning position after surging to 7/221 on day three of the second test against the West Indies in Grenada.

After beginning the day at 2-12, the courageous efforts from out of form stars in Cam Green (52) and Steve Smith (71) helped guide the Australians to a 254-run lead that they obtain now.

The two worked together to get Australia out of the hole that they were put in because of the top order, with their partnership lasting a solid 25 overs. They amassed a comprehensive 93 runs in that time as well before Green was eventually dismissed.

Smith, who was coming off a finger injury that he received in the World Test Championship final against South Africa, used eight boundaries to help produce his game high total.

Shamar Joseph was the most prolific bowler for the hosts, picking up three wickets from the day’s action, including the important wicket of Green.

He then made sure that Travis Head’s hot start wouldn’t continue, as he knocked him over for 39 before stumps.

Both Alex Carey (26) and skipper Pat Cummins (4) will begin the day four action at the crease for Australia, as they look to pile on more crucial runs for the Aussies to ensure the West Indies’ have too big of a task to chase down on the final two days.
