A behind-the-scenes look at legendary Storm coach Craig Bellamy

Melbourne Storm premiership player and current assistant coach Todd Lowrie has given an insight into the master that is Craig Bellamy as they prepare for a tilt at another title.

Bellamy, who has been with the Storm since 2003, has led the Storm to the minor premiership despite the absences of stars such as playmaker Cameron Munster for large parts of the season.

Well-known for his outbursts in the coaches box, Lowrie gave a behind-the-scenes look at Bellamy’s communication with his players during a game.

“His targets, I think with (Bellamy) when he gets angry it’s anything within reach or distance, he just goes off,” Lowrie said on SENQ Breakfast.

“With Craig, what you see when he’s in the box and the way that he goes on in the box, he doesn’t really bring that down into the sheds very often, unless it’s warranted.

“You might get a couple of times a year where he does that but he certainly doesn’t bring that same behaviour down to the players.

“He’s certainly quite calm and measured most of the time when he’s addressing the players.”

The Storm sealed their sixth minor premiership since 2011 after a win over the Penrith Panthers last month and travel to Brisbane for their rivalry clash with a Broncos team set to miss the finals after reaching the grand final in 2023.

Melbourne will field a full-strength side against Brisbane and could even welcome back star winger Xavier Coates to face his former side if he recovers from his hamstring injury in time.

“(He is) still training this morning before flying up but he’s got some time into the hammy, so we’re certainly hopeful he gets through today and if he gets through today then he should be OK,” he said.

The Storm will face a Broncos side missing stars, including Reece Walsh, Payne Haas and Selwyn Cobbo at Suncorp Stadium tomorrow night.
